Having trouble managing nursery inventory quantities? Find off the shelf inventory systems don’t handle the specifics of nurseries, such as potting up plants from one pot/tray size to another? EvergreenConnect’s nursery inventory management software provides the solution.

Understanding the difference between inventory quantities and display (or available) quantities is essential for effectively managing stock in your nursery. In a production nursery, where timing and product availability are critical, this becomes an important distinction. While the two terms may sound similar, they serve different purposes and can significantly impact operations if misunderstood.

Inventory quantity

This refers to the total number of a particular plant physically on hand. This includes everything that is either ready and saleable, or not ready and sitting in production. It represents the full count of what is currently in your possession. This is regardless of whether stock is committed to a sale or project.

Display (or available) quantity

Is the portion of that inventory that is actually free for sale or use. It takes into account any plants that have already been allocated to customer orders, held for upcoming deliveries, or set aside for internal purposes. For example, if you have 1,000 Banksia spinulosa in 140mm pots in inventory but 400 have been pre-sold or reserved, your display (or available) quantity is only 600.

Confusing these two quantities can lead to overpromising to customers or running short on products during peak seasons.
